Alain Aspect

Alain Aspect is a Physicien French born in 1947. It is recognized, amongst other things, to have led the first bearing test concluding on one from the fundamental paradoxes from the quantum Mécanique, the paradox Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen.

Professional path

Alain Aspect is former student of ENSET (promotion 1965, physical section), it is received with the contest of aggregation of physics in 1969 and becomes assistant with the Faculty of Science of Orsay of 1969 with 1971. It prepares the diploma for the occupation of doctor of 3rd cycle within the Institute of optics theoretical and applied (SupOptique) under the direction of Serge Lowenthal. It supports its thesis of 3rd cycle in 1971 and becomes teaching with the title of the co-operation to the National university of Yaounde (Cameroun) of 1971 with 1974.

On its return in France, it is named lecturer with the ENSET (National university of Cachan). Christian Imbert, professor with SupOptique, proposes to him to prepare a thesis for the doctorate of State, bearing on the experimental demonstration of the paradox of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen, within its laboratory of fundamental experiments in optics at the Institute of optics. It obtains the doctorate of State in 1983 by slicing an old debate between Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr on the bases of the quantum Mécanique, and is appointed two years later sub-manager of laboratory to the Collège de France (associate with the pulpit of atomic and molecular physics of Claude Cohen-Tannoudji).

It becomes in parallel the same year university lecturer with the Polytechnic school. He works then, within the laboratory Kastler Brossel of ENS, on the method of Refroidissement of atoms per laser known as “under the retreat of the photon”, which will be worth with Claude Cohen-Tannoudji the Nobel Prize of physics.

In 1992, it turns over to Orsay within the Institute of optics as a Research director to CNRS. He is director-assistant of SupOptique of 1992 with 1994. He assembles a new group of research there devoted to the atomic Optique, the atomic mirrors, and the condensates of Bump-Einstein. In 1994, it is in parallel named professor at the Polytechnic school.

Alain Aspect is member of the Academy of Science and the Académie of technologies. The November 9th 2005, CNRS decreed its gold medal to him. In September 2006, it was named member of the High council of science and technology.
