Al Taliaferro

Charles Alfred Taliaferro (August 29th 1905 - February 3rd 1969), known under the name of Al Taliaferro , was a draftsman of Cartoon taking as a starting point the characters of the Walt Disney Company. He worked for the editor King Features Syndicate.

He began by carrying out inking and lettering from the short stories from Mickey Mouse drawn by Floyd Gottfredson in the years 1930. Its first participation is dated from the February 26th 1931 in Mickey boxer ( Boxing Champion ) in the side of Earl Duval. It continues the inking of the daily cartoons until November 1932, date on which it deals full-time with the cartoons hedomadaires that it started a few months earlier.

It is made recognize by drawing the daily gags of Donald Duck of 1934 to 1969 with the assistance of Ted Osborne. It created several characters of the universe of this last:

  • its nephews Riri, Fifi and Loulou in 1934,
  • the Bolivar dog in 1938,
  • the cousin Gus Glouton in 1939,
  • the registered car “313” in 1940,
  • Grandmother Donald in 1943.

All its characters were taken again by other draftsmen of Disney, especially Carl Barks which developed the characters of the nephews by creating the Castors Juniors.
