Al Severin

Alec Severin was born the December 29th 1963 with Ixelles. It is resulting from a family of artists.

Biography

Its back grandfather, Fernand Severin (Large-Manil 1876-1931), was Poète and academician then on the end of its life painter and Draftsman. The principal poems which it has writing are the Lily (1888), the Gift of childhood (1891), a song in the shade (1895), ingenuous Poèmes (1899), the Mornings angelica (1888-1899), Poèmes (1908), happy Loneliness (1904) and the Source at the bottom of the wood (1924) of which some were put in music by François Rasse.

Several books are devoted to him and a complete Biographie is available on the site testamentdespoetes.be Fernand Severin was an at the same time traditional and romantic poet, and it was compared to the English painters preraphaelic and with Vigny. It was withdrawn in the contemplation of nature.

His/her grandfather, Severin Mark, were an illustrator of international repute, engraver, calligrapher and painter since the years 1930. A book, gathering a small portion of its work, was published by its family (“Severin Mark” Editions of the DYLE pensrate 80,9831 Sintmartens Latem Belgium n° registration of copyright 1993-5246-4 or 5153-6, 215 pages). Mark Severin married in 1935 Nina Holme (who was illustrator of children's literature at Desclée de Brouwer). Girl of Charles Geoffrey Holme, cofounder and editor with his father Charles Holme Esq, of the English review “The Studio” (celebrates artistic magazine) which began in 1893 and accommodated within its pages lasting nearly fifty years works of several generations of painters, graphic designers, poster artists, illuminators, architects, illustrators, sculptors, engravers and those which in the whole world worked with the advance of art in general. The editions “The Studio” were not limited to the publication of their review (translated into several languages whose French), they proposed with the public other titles (such as “Commecial Art and Industry), albums of all types, courses of drawing and initiation to arts, portfolios, directories artistic,… A branch was founded by Bryan Holme (wire of Charles Geoffrey Holme) except for New York with Viking. It was independent as for certain publications intended precisely for the American public. Charles Geoffrey Holme and his Bryan son were not “simply” editors, they were illustrators and designed the models and the design of all their publications. His/her father, Erik Severin, are also an excellent illustrator and graphic designer. Having exerted, in particular, in the Belgian advertizing field (Publiteam Agency) as for Ieteren-VW Belgium (Ieteren Email where it published even some strips and cartoons with the extremely elegant feature).

As of more the young age Alec Severin is attracted by the Cartoon and the illustration. He studies the style of American draftsmen like Norman Rockwell, Joe Kubert and Jack Davis, or Europeans such that of Jijé which will influence it. At the 14 years age, it carries out the work of illustration of a book “It' S raining cats and dogs” which will be published the following year. In 1981, it autoédite the Business Tchang (with the assistance of T.Ansaldi like patron) to commemorate an emission. At 19 years, it carries out has off Story War (150 pages drawn in 9 days) published later by Michel Deligne. Between 17 and 19 years (working during the night lasting its civil service), it also draws the first adventures of Gratin published at Michel Deligne. Then it carries out Lisette, which was intended at the beginning for the editions Dupuis, and which will be published 5 years, later by the editions Delcourt in 1990. It at that time begins its collaboration with various reviews while publishing in Tintin to defer, Spirou, Rodéo and will illustrate many Belgian and English magazines. In 1992, it adapts the Machine to explore time H.G. Wells for the Lefrancq editions and begins the Adventures from Harry which to date remains one of its two principal series with Bill Cosmos . In 2003, it publishes Harry: return to Boulogne-sur-Mer with the assistance of the team of the Festival data base of Boulogne-sur-Mer, where it goes regularly.

In 2007 he collaborated in a Kerkhofwachters anthology (Let us publish Manual Rodriguez) for which he illustrated one of the poems of his back grandfather.

Around the universe of Harry, it develops a made original concept of albums and portfolios. For each adventure, it innovates on the level of the formats of the albums by declining them under various versions of which most original is to date the “Little book in has box”. To its qualities of author, he adds a real talent of editor, printer and bookbinder by creating the editions Séveral Pictures. Alec Severin did not cease impressing since many years its faithful readers as of many authors who consult it regularly to ask him for councils.
