Al-Minya is the capital of the Average-Egypt to approximately 245 km in the south of the Cairo. A few kilometers more in the south, one finds there the sites of Beni Hassan, Antinoupolis and Such el-Amarna (Akhetaton) on Right Bank of the the Nile, like Tounah el-Gebel and Hermopolis Magna on left bank.

In the Years 1970, the Evangile according to Judas would have been discovered not far from Al-Minya.
