Placed on road 7 (RV7) and on the passage of the railway line Oslo - Bergen, Ål is a peaceful place where nature is extremely well preserved but also varied: small mountains, top-plates, forest, river (Hallingdal), many lakes.
With the downtown area, named Sundre , one finds inter alia an important public library and a cinema. It is with Sundre that also the buildings of the newspaper Hallingdølen are.
