Al-Wathiq

Abû Ja `far “Al-Wâtiq Bi-stable-lad” Hârûn Ben Muhammad Al-Driven `tasim called Al-Wathiq was born with Mecque in 812 from a named Greek slave Qarâtis. It succeeded his father Al-Driven `tasim like Caliph Abbasside in 842. He died in 847 with Samarra. His/her brother Ja `far Al-Mutawakkil succeeded to him.

Biography

Al-Wathiq, following the example his/her father, liked the studies and was the support many scientists and artists. It is known for its talent of musician, it composed more than one hundred songs.

Under its reign the Mutazilisme remains the official doctrines and the inquisitorial court created by Al-Ma' mûn and responsible for the control of religious orthodoxy: the mihna remained in function.

There were several revolts during its reign, in Syria and Palestine. These revolts originate in the growing ditch separating the Arab populations and the Turkish armies which had been trained by the Al-Wâtiq father, the caliph Al-Driven `tasim. These revolts were repressed but antagonism between these two groups did nothing but increase with the progressive takeover of Turkish.

He died after being remained too a long time in a too hot drying oven, whereas he had already used this process to look after his Hydropisie.

With its death the courtiers Turks who had lent oath to his son, preferred to him his brother Ja `far Al-Mutawakkil.
