Biography

After the death of Al-Muqtadir, in 932 one hesitated between his son and his brother like successor. Those which had contributed to the fall of the caliph preferred to rather choose his/her brother who had tried itself a coup d'etat in 929, than his son, Muhammad Ben Ja `far Al-Muqtadir, the future Ar-Râdhî, on which they could fear revenge.

Under appearances of piety it hid a great cruelty. It made torture the mother, the children and the close relations of Al-Muqtadir, to take their fortune to them.

Weaker still than his/her brother, Al-Qâhir depended completely on the emir Mu' nis and the viziers. Mu' nis organized a conspiracy to force it with abdication. The conspiracy having been discovered, the large emir was assigned with residence in its apartments (933). The unhappy one claiming with its succession was immured alive. Driven' nis and the members of the conspiracy were decapitated.

Al-Qâhir became completely tyrannical then as well towards the enemies as the friends, making his reign unbearable. At the time of a new conspiracy, the caliph was taken the night in his palate whereas it was enivré. Having refused to abdicate, the insurrectionists burst the eyes to him and imprisoned it (934).

It is Ar-Râdhî, the oldest son of Al-Muqtadir his competitor for the nomination which succeeded to him.

End of its life

After eleven years of prison, the ex-caliph was released. One could thus see it wandering equipped like a beggar until his death in 951.
