Al-Qadisiyya

Al-Qâdisiyya is city located on Right Bank of the Euphrate at 50km at the south of Najaf in Iraq in the province of Al-Qādisiyya.

History

Al-Qādisiyya was the theater of a decisive battle in the conquest of the Perse by Arabic towards 636. The Moslem troops of the Caliph `Omar carried out by Her `D ibn Abī Waqqās in spite of their numerical inferiority beat the army of the emperor Sassanides Yazdgard III carried out by Rostam Farrokhzād.

Commercial importance

Before the conquest of Persia by Arabic, Al-Qâdisiyya was only one small village close to the fortress of `Udhayb. Then the city knew a strong growth because it was on the road of Baghdad to Mecque.
