Akulivik
Akulivik is a Scandinavian Village located in the regional administration Kativik of the administrative area North-of-Quebec, Nunavik, with the Quebec.
Akulivik is also the name of a reserved ground Inuit.

History
The village was created on December 29th 1979. It is however in 1922 that the colonization of these grounds with the arrival of three families inuites will start installing a camping on the Smith Island to 100 km of Povungnituk. With the approach of the winter, the camping must move on the dry land. In fact, the occupied territory in winter is a rock point often represented like a three-pronged fork, from where the choice of the name Akulivik which means in their language central point of a three-pronged fork or point of ground between two bays . Thereafter, five other families settled, encouraged by the abundance of game. Thereafter, the Compagnie of Hudson Bay will proceed to the opening of a station of draft in 1924. Had with the difficulties represented for the supply, the company moved its station on the Smith Island in 1928. Unfortunately, the absence of installations equipped with essential services and the disease which followed decimated part of the population. The village will be abandoned in 1955.In 1973, Pasteur named Simon Aliqu, reconsidered the site of the village to spend the winter there. Thereafter, other families decided to return, but had to transport their house on boats of fortune. The birth of the Scandinavian municipality of village will become official, in 1979, of the continuations of the signature of the Convention of the Bay James. Akulivik was one of the first villages to ratify convention following its adoption. Today, the traditional activities always make integral part of the life and the sculpture on steatite also makes the fame of the village.
