Ajax (plane)

Ajax is an experimental project Russian of air Propulsion with twin technology Magnétohydrodynamique (MHD). There is only very little documentation concerning the existence of this project, this one belonging to Russian studies excluded from the public civil field.

General description

The Ajax aircraft is a project of plane Hypersonique, of which maximum speed could exceed Mach 10. The project has being led to the neighborhoods of the years 1990 by the Russian secret services. By basic lack following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the project would have been abandoned for lack of means.

Technical principles

Ajax is a machine in the shape of wing punt which one can schematize in three parts. The plane would be composed of a conventional engine placed in its back lower part. In front of the machine on the superior part of the wing, a whole of superconductive electrodes are charged to generate an electric current resulting from the movement with molecules ionized present in the roadbases from the atmosphere (principle of the Générateur MHD); the process has also as a responsibility of slow down the air at the entry of the conventional engine thus taking part to increase its output. With the back of the apparatus, the energy produced by front generator MHD is re-used to accelerate the gases Ion ized at exit of the conduit of the conventional engine.

Similar projects

The US government is also suspecté to have carried out similar projects in the long term. Propulsion MHD was already tested in the propulsion of Torpille S, boats, hypersonic planes and Aéronef S.

Not very known the civil field, and forgotten a long time, the projects related to propulsion MHD makes their reappearance since 2001 opening many prospects in the field for the Aéronautique.
