History

Aix was the first stronghold of the family of Fayette, of which the most famous representative is Gilbert of Motier, marquis of Fayette (1757-1834). However, at the time where this one lived, the family had already migrated since more than one century towards grounds to the more lenient climate, with Chavaniac-Lafayette (Haute-Loire) then with Versailles and Paris.
