Airport of Weeze
L´ airport of Weeze is a Aéroport located at Weeze to 80 km in the north of the town of Düsseldorf in Germany, and only to 30 km of Nimègue to the Netherlands.
The name has several times changed: there managers of the airport wanting to make appear the name of Düsseldorf, although 3 other airports of greatter importance are present at nearer a distance to Düsseldorf: the International airport of Düsseldorf, the airport of Cologne/Bonn and the Airport of Düsseldorf-Mönchengladbach.
The name of “airport of Weeze” was stopped by decision of the courts in order not to induce in error the passengers when with the real localization of the airport. However, certain companies use still today the name of Düsseldorf-Weeze, in particular Ryanair.
L´aéroport is a hub for the Airline company Ryanair which based several of its planes there. A score of destinations on departure and arrival are proposed by Ryanair: London (Stansted), Barcelona (Girona), Stockholm (Skavsta), Shannon, Glasgow (Prestwick), Rome (Ciampino), Palma de Majorque, Alicante, Växjö, Marrakech, Seville, Valence, Milan (Bergamo), Malaga, Fuerteventura, Trapani, Venice (Trévise), Alghero (Sardinia).
One second airline company, Sky Airlines proposes flights in direction of Antalya.
L´aéroport is an old air base of RAF: base Laarbruch, closed in 1999. Many buildings testify to the military past to l´aéroport, like hangars, bunkers, turns of regulation of the air traffic (out of use).
