Airport of Rennes - Saint-Jacob

The airport of Rennes - Saint-Jacob " Joseph Brix " is a Aéroport department of the Ille-et-Vilaine.

This Aérodrome is opened with the commercial, regular traffic national and international or not, with the private aircrafts, IFR and VFR. The principal track can accommodate planes to 180 passengers approximately, it is intended for the flights middle-distance carrier. In affrêtement cargo liner, it is adapted to typical appliances Boeing 737, Boeing 727, Illiouchine 76.

History

If the need for an aerodrome were had a presentiment of as of the middle for the years 1920, it is only fine 1931 which the alteration work of an aerodrome of a surface of 38 ha began, with Saint-Jacques-of-the-Moor, the south-west of Rennes.

Previously the few planes passing by Rennes landed in the North-East of the city, on the Hippodrome of Gayeulles now transformed into city park.

The inauguration began on July 28th 1933 in the presence of the Minister for the air, Pierre Cot and lasted three days.

Infrastructures

The modern air terminal is equipped with installations allowing an easy access to the people reduced mobility. The annual capacity of treatment is estimated at nearly a million passengers, although this traffic was not reached yet.

The airport is managed by the Chamber of commerce and of industry of Rennes.

In the first quarter the 2007 regular traffic domesticates increases by 18,3%. The lines towards Montpellier, Paris-Roissy-CDG, Nice and Marseilles post in particular excellent results: respectively +54%, +44,9%, +32,3% and +22,7%. Thanks to a program of flights ambitious holidays and with the new lines at low prices serving England, Ireland and Scotland, the traffic should still go up in power and exceed for the first time the 500.000 annual passengers.
