Airport of Guadeloupe - Caribbean Pole

The airport of the Guadeloupe Pole the Caribbean (Code AITA: PTP; Code ICAO: TFFR) is the main thing Aéroport of the island and the department of the Guadeloupe. It is moreover its only international airport, likely to accommodate planes length mail. It was before named Aéroport of Point-with-Clown Raizet , of the name of the locality of the commune of the Abymes where the airport (today Terminal South) was located, before the removal of the air terminal in the north of the track.

The airport is located on the island of the Large-Ground (island of the Guadeloupe), on the communal territory of the Abymes, to 5 km in the north of the town of Point-with-Clown and close to the tourist beaches of the south Large-Ground.

Its management is ensured by the Chamber of commerce and of industry of Point-with-Clown.

History

Under the name of airport of Raizet, it is in 1965 that the air terminal accommodates its first passengers. It was located at the south of the current track, with a terminal for the national and international flights, and a terminal reserved for the local flights. In 1970 lands the first Boeing 747, thus marking the tourist development of the Guadeloupe.

Vis-a-vis the increase in traffic, a new air terminal was inaugurated in 1996 in the north of the track in order to accommodate the passengers in much better conditions than before. This air terminal (called Final North ) serves the local, national and international connections. It is supplemented by a cargo terminal. The old air terminal (called Final South ) is reserved for the traffic charter, with the development of cruisings like to the general aviation. It accommodates moreover technical installations, such as the Control tower the administrative and offices. In 2006, a trial flight of the Airbus A380 has lands with the airport of the Guadeloupe.

Infrastructures and traffic

The airport has a track able to accommodate carrying large apparatuses (Airbus A340, Boeing 747, Boeing 777).

The capacity for treatment of its two air terminals is of 4 million passengers per annum. In 2005, the passenger traffic rose with 1.836.000 passengers. It is the first airport of DOM and the ninth airport French for the passenger traffic. It is located at the second rank of the DOM and eighth French rank concerning the traffic freight.

It is used as Plate-forme of correspondence ( hub ) with the large companies such as Air the Caribbean and Air France.

The air terminal also accommodates two aero clubs:

  • the Wings Inhabitants of Guadeloupe
  • Aero club of the Civil aviation and Guadeloupe
