Airolo

Airolo is a Commune Switzerland Canton of Tessin.

Geography

The borough of Airolo is located at the beginning of the Léventine, with the junction of the valley Bedretto, which, by the collar of Nufenen, connects the Tessin to the Valais.

History

Airolo saw the victory of the Russians over the French in 1799.

The commune of Airolo was tested hard by natural disasters. In XIXesiècle, a terrible fire devastated the village and the crumbling of the rocks of Sasso Rosso devastated part of the locality. In 1951, an avalanche made 10 victims.
