Airfix
Airfix is a British mark of models out of plastic.
It is currently Hornby Railways which has the Airfix mark.
History
Airfix was founded in 1939 by Nicholas Kove to manufacture inflatable toys. It is not that in 1948 qu ' it starts to manufacture a model in kit: it is about a farm tractor, produced like promotional object for the mark Ferguson. A certain number of these kits were sold by the Woolworth store chain and obtained a great success. In front of the success of the formula, it launches a model of the Golden Hind of Sir Francis Drake.The first model of Avion is launched in 1953: it is about the Supermarine Spitfire Mk1 with the 1/72e. It is probably the kit in Polystyrène injected which was sold the most with the world.
Of 1960 with 1970, success for this type of models in kit is enormous and the Airfix range extends quickly with models from Automobile S, trucks, boats but especially with a great number of planes.
In 1986, the firm is repurchased by the concurrent French firm Heller. In addition, to diversify its activity, Airfix in 2006 a new collection called left “Robogear”, series of models forming a board game of Science-fiction.
In November 2006, Heller being put in file for bankruptcy, Hornby Railways announces the repurchase of the Airfix activities.
