Aircraft Meteorological Dated Relay
Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) is a program of the Worldwide organization of Meteorology (OMM). The object of AMDAR is the recovery and the valorization of the aerological data collected by the airliners. The currently available data are the Température, the force and the direction of the Vent, the Static pressure, and the Turbulence, as well as complementary data necessary to the exploitation of these results, such as for example the position of the plane at the time of measurement. These data are available thanks to the sensors integrated into the instruments of flight of the plane: probe Pitot or probe of Prandtl, power station of navigation, power station of inertia.
These data are communicated on the ground in real-time by the means of Datalink short waves (ACARS) or by satellite (ASDAR). A detailed description is given in the handbook of reference AMDAR of the OMM (WMO-No 958).
Use
Data AMDAR are comparable in routine by the models of numerical Prévision of time and constitute an appreciable complement with the data of Radiosondage, by their space and temporal frequency more important, although altitude reached and the smoothness of the sampling soientt definitely lower than those of a traditional radiosondage exploration (10000 m at best, with approximately a point of measurement every 300 m of altitude for a profile AMDAR against 20000 m in routine with a point of measurement every 50 m of altitude for a standard radiosondage exploration).
Projects and developments
The two most important current projects are the measurement of the rate of Humidité of the air by named sensors WVSS (of English Water Vapor Sounding System) and an adaptation of Amdar to the turboprop aircrafts in the form of an integrated pod named Tamdar (Tropospheric Amdar) - However it should be noted that whereas AMDAR is a world co-operation sponsored by the OMM, TAMDAR is a development deprived on an open crenel with a private management of the chain of data from beginning to end.
Prospect within the framework for the World Weather Day before (VM)
One plans to equip the generation to come from the future digital models with forecast numerical from time from capacities from assimilation in real-time, flexible according to the needs for the synoptic forecast (retiming of the model) or for the immediate forecast (emergency). In this context, the air traffic will be able quasi-immédiatement to put forward with the request the measures taken for their own needs by the planes flying over the zone concerned.
