Aircelle

Aircelle is a manufacturer of nacelles for the engines of planes, pertaining to the group Safran. The nacelle is the structure which surrounds the engine and which has several functions:

  • Aerodynamic: To ensure the flow of primary education flows (flow entering the compressor of the engine), and secondaries (flow running out around the engine)

  • Acoustic: to attenuate the noise of the engine

  • Braking: to contribute to the braking of the apparatus to the landing through a system of thrust reversing. The thrust reverser system is useful for the landing on wet, or contaminated tracks (snow, remains, ice…)

  • Safety of the flights: the nacelle has the role to ensure the application of the engine fires or the remains at the time of driving incidents.

Aircelle is the contracted name of Airbus - Nacelles. This joint-venture was creates in 1999 per Airbus and the Snecma to break the monopoly of manufacturing nacelles American Goodrich which up to that point equipped all the projects with the airframe manufacturer Européen (A300; A3210; A320; A319; A321).

Having gained the market of A340-500/600, Aircelle is seen entrusting the design of the nacelle of then the promising A3XX, which was going to become A380.

In 2001, the head office and the Research department of Aircelle are transferred of Le Havre has Toulouse.

Aircelle is originator, integrating, and manufacturing nacelles of the Airbus A318.

Aircelle also present on is gone of the nacelles of regional planes or businesses such as the Embraer 170-190, F7X.

Aircelle conceives and manufactures also thrust reverser systems for the Airbus A320, A330, and A340-200/300.

The last achievements of Aircelle in the field of the nacelles constitute many " premières" technological aiming improving the performance of braking during the thrust reversing, or at increasing the acoustic attenuation to allow the planes such as A380 to reach the necessary noise levels by the new regulations.
