Air Tahiti

Air Tahiti (Code AITA: VT ; Code ICAO: VTA ) is a private Airline company of French Polynésie which exerts a public service between the islands of the archipelagoes. It has as Plateforme of correspondence the International airport Tahiti Faa' has with Tahiti.

History

Previously named Air Polynesia, it was renamed Air Tahiti in 1986 when old ATU (begun again by Air France) sold its shares to local investors. In January 1987, ATR replace the Fokker and to the son of the years more and more of islands and atolls were added to the network.

Accidents

An apparatus of the company Air Moorea, company subsidiary of Air Tahiti, ensuring the connection Moorea-Tahiti (French Polynesia) was damaged after its takeoff, outside the lagoon of Moorea close to the point of Temae, Thursday 8/9/07 towards 22:00 GMT, making 20 dead. The crash landing took place with one thousand nautical of the island of Moorea, that the apparatus had just left to connect Tahiti. Nineteen passengers and the pilot were on board apparatus, a twin-engine Twin Otter, which was damaged in the channel a depth of approximately 1.500 meters which separates the two distant islands from 17 km. Five members of the Polynesian ministry of the Environment, whose principal private secretary Didier Bay-tree, were aboard plane with two senior officials of the European commission (European Development Funds). Twin Otter d' Air Moorea had been exploited by the company for one year and had passed a check on July 18th.
