Ain Témouchent

Ain Témouchent is a city of the west of the Algérie, chief town of the Wilaya of Ain Témouchent. The place draws its name from the Arab Ain (“source”), and from the Berbère ouchent (“the chacale”), which gives “the Source of Chacale” ( Ain el diba ); in Latin, one called it Albulae . Ain Temouchent occupies a situation privileged because of its proximity compared to three big cities (70 km in the west of Oran, 70 km in the north of Sidi Bel Abbès, 75 km in the east of Tlemcen. Ain Témouchent is to 504 km in the West of Algiers).

History

The recent history of Ain Témouchent is of an amazing richness, since this city knew and lodged great men such as the emir Abd El-Kader, Rabah Bitat, the sheik El Bachir El Ibrahimi, colonel Otmane, and the martyrs Larbi Bendjerid, Ahmed Ammour, the Benfissa brothers, Salah Chouiref, etc

In 1999, an earthquake destroyed a good part of the old city, which gave birth to, for this mythical and historical city, a single chance of rebuilding in its history thanks to the loan, by the World Bank, of 83,5 million dollars to the Algerian government.

Today, with this rebuilding, the town of Ain Témouchent has one of the new cities of Algeria independent best arranged for the framework of life of the citizens.

Within this new " city; Akid Othmane" , in addition to the various existing equipment in a city, a public garden of one hectare was carried out according to the modern standards of the architecture of the landscape thanks to the know-how of a graduate Algerian landscape gardener of the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the landscape of Versailles and exerting in Algeria.

The visit of this modern public garden makes dream any person in charge liking the improvement of the framework of life of its citizens because, following its inauguration by the president of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika in December 2003, it became with this new city, the Algerian miracle carried out by the furnished efforts on behalf of its Wali, of its directors, the architects, the landscape designer and the masons.

If ever this specimen Algerian landscape public garden, which was visited by several ministers, falls under the responsibility of the service for maintenance and cleaning for the APC for Ain Témouchent, one will not be that sorry for its fate because it will be similar to that of the other green areas carried out, by the same landscape gardener, of the programme of emergency rebuilding of the disaster area, which are already in a state of ruin and which the 400000 dollars spent for the realization of this landscape garden will leave in deliquescence like the others 1,1 wasted dollars million for lack of a good management on behalf of the building owner, with the expenses of the Algerian taxpayers, while leaving by its loss, a spot of desolation in full center of a new city which is to today a jewel of the urban developments in Algeria because it is the symbol of the solidarity and the competence of the Algerian executives, of the architect to the simple mason.

Tourism

It has several seaside resorts such as Rachgoun, Beni Saf, Terga, Sassel, Oued El Hallouf, Bouzedjar. Splendid coast on the the Mediterranean extended on 80 km (prolongation of the Oranian dimension). Thermal springs (Hammam Bouhadjar, volcanic in the past zone).

Finally this area offers beautiful landscapes alternating the plains, the stony plates, the high hills, of the mountains, the valleys (Basin of Tafna and El Malah, etc) and the sea.
