Aimargues

Aimargues is a common Frenchwoman, located in the department of the Gard and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Chief town of the Canton of Rhôny-Vidourle.

Its inhabitants are called the Aimarguois .

Geography

Aimargues is located between Nimes (24 km) and Montpellier (27 km), and is to 20 km of the beaches of Languedoc. It is surrounded by water: a coastal river, the Vidourle, a river, the Rhôny, and a water level, Ginouze. It accommodates companies of national scale, whose Eminence and Canine Royal, but remains turned principalament towards agriculture: fruit and vegetables (asparaguses, melons, etc), and vine.

History

The city probably exists since the Antiquité. In 1565, with erection in duchy-peerage of the Viscount of Uzès by Charles IX, the seigniory of Aimargues passed under the domination of the Maison of Crussol and became the principal stronghold of Low-Vistrenque. The city lost its ramparts on order of the king Louis XIII. It left the supervision of Uzès as of the Révolution.

the town of Aimargues is marked deeply by the culture taurine. Fanfonne Guillerme which was born in Paris the 55 Avenue Kleber on October 31st, 1895 spent there many years of its childhood before settling there definitively and of sastisfaire its passion for the race camargaise (horses and bulls).
