Aikijō
The aikijō is the name given to the practice of the jō (stick runs) in the branch Iwama ryu of the Aïkido. The coding of the aikijo was carried out by Morihiro Saito.
The aikijo is different from the Jōdo (fencing with OJ ): the jodo is primarily based on techniques of defense against a saber, while the aikijo was developed starting from the art of the Hozoin lance that Morihei Ueshiba had studied with Sokaku Takeda. Ueshiba worked it over again to put it in coherence with the aikido at naked hands. It is used to work the directions, to vary the distances.
In addition to the blows and strike fundamental, teaching is based on Kata and their applications, and in particular the “kata of the 31 movements” (or “kata 31”), like on the exercises with two (kumijo) .
