Ahun

Ahun ( Aïun in Occitan) is a common French, located in the department of the Creuse and the area the Limousin. Its inhabitants is called Ahunois.

Geography

The town of Ahun is located on the road of Guéret at Aubusson at a score of kilometers of each one of these important cities of the department, with the foot of the village of Busseau in the common master key the Creuse

Located at 2 km of Ahun the village of the Moutier-with Ahun is famous for its superb woodworks baroques located in the church (see the page of this commune)

  • the viaduct of Busseau , allotted wrongfully to Gustave Eiffel, it overhangs the Creuse its 57 m in height and its 320 m length. It was built in one year of December 1863 at December 1864 under the direction of the engineers Llyod and Nordling . It is a railway viaduct, with single track, although before the viaduct two railway lines meet: that of Bordeaux-Lyon and that of Felletin-Guéret, and cross the Hollow one thanks to him.

  • the village of Masgot : Masgot (not to pronounce the S ) is located on the commune of Fransèches, to approximately 6 km in the south of Ahun. The curiosity of this small village is the presence of very many sculptures carried out at the 19th century by one of its inhabitants, François Michaud . Nowadays one can carry out there training courses of mason stone .
  • the church of Under-Parsat , in which have can admire superb modern frescos of the painter Gabriel Chabrat .

History

Old Gallo-Roman city ( Acitodunum or Agedunum according to the texts) located at an important crossroads of the Roman way of Holy Lyon to , it has a Romance church, and pretty houses in Granite.

It had a monetary workshop under the Mérovingiens. One noticed there formerly an old fortress called “castle of the Rock”.

Ahun was an old priory placed under the invocation of Saint Silvain, saint who was martyrisé in this city on October 16th, 407.

Gradually, Ahun becomes a free city which obtains its lords the right to manage itself by charters:

  • the first charter of stamping is granted in 1228 by Hugues XII, count of the Marche.
  • Hugues XIII confirmed this charter in 1286, and makes it possible to the inhabitants to marry without the assent of the lord.
  • the son of François I {{er}}, Charles, duke of Orleans, count of Walk, orders a charter which stipulates that the inhabitants of the town of Ahun “will be able to make the hullabaloo with none the inhabitants of the aforesaid the city, that is to say marrying and remariant; but that which Marie or remarie downtown the aforementioned, will have to the companions to be married, four bribes, four breads and mets of meat, or will have to yawn five grounds for the known as right in what the aforementioned companions or consuls will be held to accompany the aforementioned grooms, going and coming from their house to the church. ”
At the 13th century, Ahun was one of the seven châtellenies which returned justice in the name of the count of Walk; June 14th, 1686, this châtellenie was yielded by Louis XIV to the duke of Feuillade in exchange of Saint-Cyr military school.

At the village of Chantemille, there exists an old feudal castle. In 1465, Louis Dupuis, lord of Chantemille, obtained from the count of Walk the permission to make there make the guet and keep day and night, it is him which is at the origin of the current castle which was increased by a wing at the beginning of the 16th century. Chantemille was a cure placed under the Holy-Radegonde invocation of ; it was defended with the chaplain, in 1662, to make no function curiale there. The vault castrale located at the castle of Chantemille in ruins about 1590, then restored in 1618 and was again ruined. About 1927-1930 one cleared the ruins updating a Gallo-Roman furnace bridge which was used as support with the altar stone: " the cippe of Chantemille " , it is always visible today. The low part of the vault Sainte Radegonde, which forms a terrace overhanging the valley of the Hollow one, still exists as well as the altar stone of the 15th century and two doors in full swifter obviously of the 16th century.

Monument

  • the Saint-Silvain church is partly Romance (12th century), it is stripped enough outside, it has a crypt of 11th where one reaches by a staircase located outside, and in which the tomb of Silvain saint is. Inside the church, one can see beautiful woodworks of the end of the 17th century and beautiful a piétà of the 15th century with six characters.
  • With three kilometers of Ahun, at the village of Chezotte, there exists an old feudal castle preserved very well.
