Ahmed Jibril
Ahmed Jibril (Arab: أحمدجبريل), born in 1928, is the founder and the chief of the movement of Extreme left Popular front for the Release of the General Palestine-Command (FPLP-CG).
The FPLP-CG is in the beginning many attacks against Israel. The group was pointed out for its taking of hostages of Israeli soldiers during the Guerre of Lebanon. The son of Ahmed Jibril, Jihad Ahmed Jibril, which directed the military wing of the FPLP-CG, was killed by the explosion of a car bomb with Beirut the May 20th 2002.
Biography
Ahmed Jibril was born with Jaffa in 1928. Its family leaves the Palestine for the Syria where it is high. It is useful as officer in the Syrian army. It founds the Palestinian Face of release in 1959, it is joined by Georges Habache, old of the Arab Nationalist movement, with which it founds in 1967 the Liberation popular front of Palestine. It is about a movement Marxiste opposed to the nationalism preached by the Fatah of Yasser Arafat.
Scission with the PFLP
Jibril, which supports the Syria, leaves the PFLP because of the conflicts which oppose Habache to the Syrian government. The PFLP and the FPLP-CG have practically the same ideology. Jibril believes that the Palestinians will gain the war with a war of attrition. It joined Habache and other Palestinian groups to be opposed to negotiations with the State of Israel. The FPLP-CG carried out in 1987 an attack commits suicide with hang gliders. They used hang gliders in fabric and aluminum, been driven by a small engine. They launched their attacks from South-Lebanon, to find itself with close to 45km behind the Israeli borders. The first group of kamikazes was composed of Palestinian, of a Iraq IEN, a Syrian and Lebanese.
Relationships to Islamic groups
Jibril would have received the assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran via the Hezbollah and the Islamic Jihad. Contrary to Georges Habache who is Christian, Jibril could as a Moslem receive the assistance of Islamic groups.
Israel seizes in 2001 a Palestinian boat in the port of Haifa filled with heavy weapons, Jibril is shown to be at the origin of this traffic.
With the rise to power of the Hamas during the years 1990, Jibril and its movement do not represent today any more of serious threat, with the eyes of the Israelis.
May 28th, 2006, after rocket fires katioucha, Israel bombards 2 camps of the FPLP-CG with Sultan Yaacoub in the south-east of Lebanon close to the Syrian border and with Naameh with sixteen of kilometers in the south of Beirut. July 12th, 2006, this camp is again aimed at the time of reprisals of the Israeli army after the removal of two of its soldiers by the Hezbollah.
