Ahmad II (Samanides)
Ahmad II (death the 12 January 914) was an emir of the Samanides who has reigned of 907 with 914. He was the son of Ismail Ier.
Ahmad becomes emir following the death of his father into 907. Little time after, it received rights on the Sistan, the heart of the kingdom saffaride, by the Caliph Al-Muqtadir. The Saffarides internal struggles made the conquest easier. The army of Ahmad start from Farâh towards Bust, where they meet a low resistance. At the same time, the Turkish general of Ahmad Simjur Al-Dawati receives the capitulation of Zarandj by Mu' addal. The conquest on Saffarides is completed (911), Ahmad names his cousin Mansur ibn Ishaq as a governor of Sistan during the same year. Samanides capture also a rebel of the Caliphate, Sebük-eri, which they send to Baghdad.
The policy of oppressive tax on Mansur causes a revolt in Sistan one year after its nomination. The garrison of Zarandj is destroyed, and Mansur is captured. 'Amr ibn Ya' qub, Saffaride is installed initially like a puppet for the chiefs of the rebellion, then like an emir in his own rights. However an army samanide under the control of Husain ibn 'Ali Marvarrudhi restores the control of Samanides on the area. “Amr is sent to Samarkand while the other rebellious chiefs are killed. Simjur Al-Dawati is then installed as a governor of Sistan. But the Tabaristan and Gorgan revolt at once against the Samanide authority. Ahmad is killed before being able to do something to cure the situation. He is decapitated in his sleep by some of his slaves in his tent close to Bukhara (January 914). Ahmad became unpopular among his subjects because of his kind to change the language of the court of the Persan to the Arab , after his death this order is repealed at once.
Its young person wire Nasr succeeded to him his death into 914.
