Aguais

The Aguais (or Moors of Dax ) is an old country of Gascogne, on the current territory of the department of the Landes. It corresponds to the area of influence of Dax.

Presentation

Historically attached to the Chalosse, Dax and Aguais are located nevertheless at cross several regions: Chalosse in South-east, the Maremne and the Seignanx in South-west, the Marensin in the North-West, and the High-Moor in North.

The etymology of Aguais is the same one as that of the town of Dax: it is about the Latin word Aquæ, for " eau".

Part of Aguais is located in the Landes of Gascogne and consitue the Moors of Dax.
