Agrypnie (medicine)
The agrypnie indicates a prolonged total loss of the Sommeil, either during various rare diseases of which it constitutes a symptom then, or caused voluntarily.
Caused Agrypnie
- the agrypnie can be caused on an experimental basis, to study the effects of the deprivation of sleep. Longest agrypnie caused proven by recording electroencephalographic is 276 hours.
- During the XXe century, various attempts to use the agrypnie as treatment of the depression were tested without success.
Agrypnie like symptom
Most of the time, even when patients complain about total Insomnie, the recordings electroencephalographic of the sleep show that they sleep, even if that is little and in a split way, leaving an impression of complete insomnia. Cases of total insomnia were however reported in the following diseases:- fibrillary Encéphalite
- Chorée of Morvan: a case was in particular reported during this rare disease with four months without sleep, without disorder of the memory nor of the attention, but with important night hallucinations
- Acrodynie
