Agronômica (Santa Catarina)

Geography

Agronômica is located in high the Vallée of Rio Itajaí, by a Latitude 27º 15 ' 54" south and by a Longitude of 49º 42 ' 40" west, for a Altitude of 347 meters.

Its population was of: 4677 inhabitants with the census of 2007. The municipality extends on 136 km ².

The city is located at 194 km in the west of the capital of the State, Florianópolis. It belongs to the Microrégion of Rio C Sul, in the mésorégion of the Vallée of Rio Itajaí.

The climate is wet there, with an annual average temperature is there of 25°C.

IDH of the city was of 0,811 in 2000 (UNDP).

History

The first immigrants European S, mainly of German origin and Italy, do not arrive in the area in 1909. They find there the grounds fertile, favourable with the Agriculture, which they seek and found a locality, then named Pastegem . The locality becomes a district of Rio C Sul in 1961 then is officially high with the category of municipality the April 8th 1964, dismemberment of Rio C Sul.

Economy

The local economy is mainly founded on the Agriculture and the breeding, in particular the culture of the Riz, the Maïs and the Tabac. Some industries of small size are also installed there (Bois, Meuble S, Céramique S, Vêtement S,…). The municipality has the greatest productivity at the national level concerning the irrigated culture of rice, with 11,9 tons per hectare, that is to say one of highest in the world.

Culture

Since the year 2000, an annual festival, the Ferroz (of festa , festival, and arroz , rice) is celebrated to commemorate the records of productivity of the city concerning the culture of rice.

The other events which rythment the life of the municipality are:

in March, the “festival of the opening of the rice harvest”;
on May 26th, the “festival of Notre-Dame of Caravage” ( Nossa Senhora C Caravaggio in Portuguese);
on June 6th, the birthday of the city;
on July 25th, the “festival of the colonist and the driver”;
on August 6th, the festa C Senhor Bom Jesus de Guape .
