AgroParisTech

The Institute of sciences and industries of living and the environment , commonly called AgroParisTech , is a French establishment of higher learning and Scientific research specialized in sciences of living and having the statute of Grand establishment. Its seat is with Paris but it is installed in various places of Île-de-France and in province.

Pole specialized in sciences of living of ParisTech, it wants to be “more the European university in the field of sciences and technologies of alive”.

History

AgroParisTech was created like great establishment on January 1st 2007 under the terms of the decree 2006-1592 of December 13rd 2006. It results from fusion from:

Activities

The missions of AgroParisTech are fixed at article 3 of the decree of December 13rd, 2006. The main mission is continuous initial training and of Engineer S, in the fields of the Agronomie, the Sylviculture, the Town and country planning and the Sustainable development. Establishment of research, the establishment accommodates Doctorant S and research teams. It also has a role in the Technology transfer and the support with the Création of company.

Through the National school of the agricultural engineering, water and forests, it is a school of formation of civils servant, in particular the engineers of the agricultural engineering, water and forests and the forest engineers.
L' school is sructurée in 5 great departments of formation and research which include/understand many research units often associated with organizations like INRA, the CEMAGREF or CNRS.

Initial training

The access to AgroParisTech is subordinated to a contest which occurs after two years from Preparatory class to the universities.

AgroParisTech is entitled by the Commission of the Titles of Engineers to deliver with its students a title of engineer at the end of a three years formation in the establishment, that is to say vat + 5.

The establishment includes/understands three courses of distinct engineers, of which the duration is at least three years.

Course of agricultural engineer to vocation general practitioner

The first year proceeds in Grignon. It mainly comprises lesson of base joint and some modules to the choice. This year is remembered by the training course in 5 weeks farm.

The second year proceeds in Paris. The joint base is reduced and the majority of the lesson are with the choice. The study training courses and trips multiply, pedagogy becomes more concrete and interactive.

The third year is one year of specialization. It consists of 6 months of course and 6 months of training course. Between the second and third year, the pupils can make a “long training course” one year (divided into two periods).

AgroParisTech Agro course also proposes a way of formation by the training, which is recognized by the companies and is appreciated by the pupils. One can note that more half of the pupils choose each year to make one year of caesura abroad between the second and the third year.

Lastly, the students can continue by a Doctorat with the center within the doctoral school Abies.

Course of engineer of agribusiness industries

This course trains agro-alimentary engineers for the related food industries and sectors (drug companies, chemical and cosmetic, large distribution, council).

Course forest engineer

This course proceeds on the site of Nancy and the shape of the forest engineers

Community life

Many associations rythment the life of the students and mobilize them:

  • the junior undertaken, AgroParisTech Junior Study - pole food (course IAA) and Agro-Services Studies (course agronomist)) ;
  • the association Festiv' Agro, which organizes each year a festival of music and sport activities in Grignon;
  • the Vitae Forum for employment;
  • the Night the Agro one, festive evening opened with all, organized each year in Paris about November;
  • association DEBATEs the Agro one, which organizes conference-debates open to all;
  • the AgroSIA association which collaborates with Comexpo for the organization of the International fair of the agriculture of Paris the every years in February - March;
  • the federation of associations coeds of AgroParisTech, Féder' AGRO, has as a role of mutualiser the efforts of each association the Agro one and speaking with one voice in the name of all the pupils near the various partners (administration, companies, association of the former students…).

Administrative organization

AgroParisTech is placed under the supervision of the ministry in charge of agriculture.

The most important authority is the Board of directors, whose president is elected. Its 44 members include/understand representatives of the State, qualified personalities, the former students, the teachers, researchers and administrative staff and technical, as well as the student S and the pupils civils servant.

The managing director, named by the Ministers for Agriculture and Higher education, ensures the current management of the establishment.

The decree envisages the existence of four other advisory authorities:

  • Scientific advice, intended to examine the related questions with the research;
  • the Council of the teachers, gathering a good part of the teachers of the establishment (51 members), and charged to examine the questions of Pedagogy;
  • the Council of teaching and the life coed, intended to study the organization of teaching and the living conditions of the students (its role is close to that of CEVU in the universities);
  • the Council of the ENGREF, for the specific questions to this service.
