Agreements and dissensions ( Sweet and Lowdown ) is a film of Woody Allen, left in 1999. He tells some episodes of the life of Emmet Ray, played by Sean Penn, truth-false guitarist of jazz. The film is presented in the form of an alternation between testimonys of specialists in the jazz and the film itself, according to a mode running to Woody Allen ( Annie Hall , Zelig , Radio Days have a comparable structure)
Synopsis
In the Thirties, Emmet Ray is the second best guitarist of jazz in the world. it is only preceded by Django Reinhardt, which it cannot listen to without crying, nor to see without disappearing. Like him, it is odd, player of billiards, inconstant, which is worth to him the anger of the directors of club who employ it. It becomes acquainted with a young dumb woman, played by Samantha Morton, which falls in love with him… Incompetent to engage, it will end up leaving it then by meeting a journalist fashionable (Uma Thurman), who marries it. This marriage is condemned in advance, and it will finish following a legendary episode in which each specialist has his own version… It will end up disappearing without leaving of trace after having broken its guitar in one moment of despair.
Anecdotes
Many people believed in the real existence of Emmet Ray and wanted to get its albums, whereas the guitarist of film is in fact Howard Alden.
