Agonac

Agonac (in Occitan Agonac ) is a common French, located in the department of the the Dordogne and the area Aquitaine.

Geography

The common of Agonac extends on the two slopes from the valley from the Beauronne, to 12 km in the north of Périgueux.

History

With the localities " Borie-Vieille" and " Cadagnes" , of the excavations attested an occupation of the area as of prehistoric times. At the 11th century the bishop Frotaire de Gourdon chooses a difficult hill of access dominating the valley to build there one of the four fortresses which were to protect the area against the invasions Normans. In the night from June 13rd to 14th 2007, storms particularly violent ones accompanied by pouring rain involved a sudden rising of the Beauronne. Forty houses were disaster victims with Agonac.
