Agny is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

History

Armorial bearings

To the 16th century, the seigniory belonged to an adviser of Charles Quint, Jean Caullier It was then acquired not the House of Hangests then that of Mailly.

1582: September 26th, Isabeau de Buissy brings in marriage, in Charles de Bonnière Souastre, the grounds of Naves and Agny.

During the 16th century, the lord of the place Jean Caulier was to advise of Charles Quint and first President of the Council of Artois.

1605-1610: A sight drawn from the albums of Charles De Croy presents the center of the village. One sees a cylindrical keep with conical roof, and the church.

1654: The prince of Condé passed in the Spanish camp. He takes his districts with Agny.

1712: The enemy troops threaten the French lines, in the south of Arras, Agny is occupied. Pierre Montesquieu d' Artagnan, governor of Arras prepares with the seat. The victory of Denain, on July 24th will put an end to this episode.

The revolutionary period: The population counts 616 inhabitants. In accordance with the decree of November 12th, 1789 of the National Assembly, it gathers in the church on January 17th, 1790. It is proceeded to the election of the General advice of the Commune. The first mayor is Alexis Petit assisted of 5 municipal officers, 1 prosecutor and 12 notable.

Lille, capital of Flandres is besieged by the Austrians. The Company of the Friends of the Constitution of Arras, chaired by Augustin Robespierre buys, with the new agnynoise municipality, of vegetables in great quantity to come to assistance of the Inhabitants of Lille.

19th century: The town hall is built, out of white stone. The pediment carries the date of 1860. In spite of the wars, of which that of 1914-1918 when Agny constitutes part of the face, the building which carries some marks, is always firmly upright.

Church

The old church appears on a sight of the albums of Charles de Croy, between 1605 and 1610.

A new church was built in 1764. It was demolished during the Revolution then rebuilt in 1823 and is again destroyed during the conflict 1914-1918.

One of the bells was recovered by the allied armies, in particular British. It was installed in one of the main arteries of Arras and announced in Arrageois the victory of 1918 and the end of the hostilities.

Today, the bell is installed in the buildings of the town hall.

The term of the parish is dedicated to SAINT LAURENT.

While entering the current building, one notices the single stained glass which introduces soldiers of the Great War, éplorées women and a child knelt close to a tomb. In the content, one sees the old church, in ruins.

The lower part comprises the names of Agnynois died for France during the " large guerre".
