Agglomeration of Rouen

The Communauté of agglomeration of Rouen is a French inter-commune structure , located in the department of the Seine-Maritime and the area High-Normandy.

History

The agglomeration rouennaise was organized gradually, forming finally a district in 1995. This one was transformed into Communauté of agglomeration in 2000 ( Agglomération of Rouen in 2002). It is chaired by the European deputy François Zimeray (PS). It counts today 411.346 inhabitants against 391.375 in 1999 or 386.546 in 1990.

Achievements

The " Subway " (makes a Tramway of it buried Right Bank) inaugurated in 1995 constitutes one of the major contemporary achievements of the establishment: it consists of a single line buried in its crossing of the center town which occupies Right Bank and being divided into goose leg on left bank of the the Seine. More recently, the operation " Agglo-Vélo" intends to develop 75 km of cycle tracks and accessibility with public transport by the cyclists.

Established on the quays of the Seine, the future room of the current musics will be installed in an unused hangar of the wearing of Rouen on left bank, the 106. The place of exposure dedicated to the contemporary visual arts will be also installed in an old cargo warehouse, on Right Bank of the river, hangar 2 . The community of agglomeration of Rouen also contributes to the Southern highway skirting of the agglomeration (brought into service in 2008), with the construction of the sport hall (opening in 2009), de la' new médiathèque' (opening in 2009), of the 6th bridge (brought into service in 2008) and with western the Seine project which aims at requalifying on 800 hectares, of old industrial waste lands in mixed sector dedicated to housing, with the trade, with the tertiary sector.

In 2004, the merger plan of common intended to form a " Large Rouen" (and to stabilize the city politically centers) (Bihorel, Bonsecours and Rouen) is death born in front of the opposition of the municipal councils concerned and fears of loss of identity and rise in the taxation.

In parallel, a bringing together is started with the joint communities of agglomeration of Elbeuf and Louviers: Diagram of Territorial Coherence (SCOT) common, single tariffing of the urban transport, connection tram-train between Barentin, Rouen and Tweed. A reflection is carried out to create in the long term vast a Urban community resulting from the fusion of the three establishments.

The agglomeration of Rouen publishes a magazine, Agglo Mag .

Composition

The community of Agglomération agglomeration of Rouen gathers 45 communes at January 1st, 2007, for 411.435 inhabitants.
