Afternoon
The afternoon is the part of the Jour ranging between the midday and the Soir (which starts at the beginning of the Nuit until the following Matinée).
This name can be used with the masculine or the female one.
The limits of the period are not precise and can depend on many local or subjective factors. One can fix his beginning between 13:00 and 14:00 in the countries where the Déjeuner of midday is the tradition, but the British, for example, choose 12:00 the end is normally associated with the Crépuscule, in which case the variations can be very important according to the places and of the seasons: 18:00 or 19:00 are median values.
The timetable of the afternoon is related to the biological rate/rhythm. Some choose the Sieste, occupation necessary in the hot countries.
One employs sometimes the Latin expression post meridiem (Pm) to indicate the moment of the afternoon.
