After the Gold Rush

After the Gold Rush (1970) is the third album solo of Neil Young, it alternates the Rock, as in its preceding album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969), and the Country - Rock acoustic with the manner of the supergroupe Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young) (CSN & Y of shortened).

The list of the musicians who accompany it for this album shows this combination of the influences well, with on the one hand the members of the group “Crazy Horse” which accompanied it for Everybody Knows This is Nowhere and, on the other hand, Stephen Stills and Greg Reeves which played with CSN & Y.

This album marks the first appearance in a recording of the Nile Lofgren (which was then 19 years old) which will make a career in solo later and will play with Bruce Springsteen.

The fame of the album was done on late, Neil Young always including several of the songs of this album in its concerts or those of CSN & Y, like " Southern Man ", " Don' T Let It Bring You Down " and " After the Gold Rush ".

" Southern Man " denounce the spirit of the old American south, it will insert the nail with " Alabama " on the following album " Harvest ".

In 2003, the album is classified with the 71ème row by Rolling Stone magazine among the 500 best albums of all times.
