African democratic gathering

The African democratic Rassemblement (GDR) is a federation of African political parties founded at the conclusion of the Congress of Bamako (18 October 21st, 1946) by Felix Houphouët-Boigny, which will become minister in the French government and the first president of the republic of the Ivory Coast to its independence) and Modibo Keïta, which will become the first president of the independent Mali.

Its affiliation with the French Communist party (PCF), only metropolitan political party present at Bamako, causes the opposition of many African territorial parties and many annoyances on behalf of the colonial administration française.
May 8th, 1950, GDR announces finally its disaffiliation of PCF and its bringing together with the democratic and socialist Union of Resistance (UDSR) facilitated by François Mitterrand.
