African contemporary art

The is very dynamic. It is inspired as well by the traditions of the continent as, and it is more and more the case, of contemporary urban realities of Africa in change, which still seeks an identity. The techniques and the supports are varied, active simple painting with the installations with video projection, while passing by sculptures made out of materials of recovery…
L' exposure “Africa Remix” which was presented in Germany, in England, in France and in Japan showed the richness of this sub-Saharan African contemporary art. But Africa itself obtained centers of contemporary art, and of the festivals or biennial are regularly organized on the continent to emphasize the talent of the artists of today.

When African cities relative of contemporary art…

  • artist: Joseph-Francis Sumégné,
  • production: association doual' art

This 12 height meters monumental statue, weighing nearly 10 tons, entirely out of materials of recovery, was built in 1996, on the roundabout of Deïdo, one of the busier places of Douala. Causing polemical and rejection initially (it, still today, is called " Ndjoundjou" (monster) by the inhabitants), it seems since being made a place in the city. It besides is very often taken as symbol of Douala (such as for example by the newspaper " the daily newspaper of Douala").
