African confederation of Volley ball

The African Confédération of Volley ball (CAVB) is the continental federation managing the Volley-ball in Africa. It is based with the Cairo in Egypt.

History

Officially, the CAVB was the last confederation to be created: it was established in 1972, when the International federation of Volley ball transformed its five Commissions of Zone into continental confederations. The African Commission of Volley ball had been founded in 1967.

Although the national federation of Egypt was implied in the foundation of the FIVB in 1947, volley ball remained primarily amateur in Africa, even in countries which maintained a program Olympic dense, like the South Africa or the Kenya. Recently, there was an considerable effort of the FIVB to improve competitiveness of the continent by the means of special actions of development. The results of these measurements are, in 2005, still shy persons.

The CAVB is responsible for the African national federations of volley ball, and organizes the continental competitions like the Championnats of Africa female masculine or Championnats of Africa (first editions in 1967). It also takes share in the organization of the tournaments of qualification for the significant events such as the Olympic Games or the Championnats of the world, and for the international competitions accommodated by one of its affiliated federations.

Teams

In 2004, no team African had never succeeded in obtaining notable results in international competitions, neither at the men nor among women. One could discuss on the fact that the Egypt has a sporting tradition, as older all the federations affiliated to the CAVB.

According to the participations in the international events, which are usually allowed by continental procedures of qualification, one could propose the teams of Tunisia and Egypt at the men, and of the Kenya, Egypt, Tunisia and the Nigeria among women.
