1049 Tunis |} The African Club (rear RTL الناديالأفريقي) (CA) is a general sports club Tunisia N founded in 1920 with Tunis.

History

The African Club was ready to carry on its activities as of the year 1919 but what delayed some the beginning was the name which it was going to take ( African Islamic Club ). Indeed, this name was disputed by the authorities of the French protectorate because, at that time, any Tunisian club had the right to exist only with the authorization of the authorities.

It is thus only the October 4th 1920 which the club is officially authorized to exert its activities but its route does not begin on this date. The African Club, as some of his/her founding fathers affirm it, is the natural prolongation of the African Stage (association founded in 1915 and dissolved in 1918) of which it preserves the colors, the spirit, part of the name as well as a core of players (particularly Mohamed Soudani). This last is besides the president of the meeting inaugural of the club which is held in a coffee of Bab Jedid pertaining to a family from now on clubist. It is to be announced that the first head office of the club is Makhzen Essouf (wool deposit) which is located in the district of El Morkadh.

As of its presentation, the request for authorization is the subject of a Chantage since approval is subjected to 3 conditions:

  • the nomination with the head of CA of a president of French nationality
  • change of the selected colors (namely the Rouge and the Blanc)
  • renouncement of the national symbol (growing and star)

It is then a question of forcing the clubists to dissociate themselves from any reference to the national flag and to alienate all its identity base. The terms of this compromise are categorically refused. Finally, constrained eagerness authorities of the time to yield and grant to the African Club a historical concession on the first two points, namely, the Tunisian nationality of the president and his colors. The founding fathers of the club, much more intransigent, obtain finally win and impose a directing office entirely Tunisian and chaired by Bachir Ben Mustapha (a first in the Tunisian sporting history).
