Africa Live

Africa Live is a festival organized with Dakar (Senegal) the 12 and March 13rd 2005 intended to alert the international community on the Paludisme in Africa. This festival, organized by the Senegalese singer Youssou Dour does not belong to the initiative “Partnership Faire to move back paludism” (“Roll Back Malaria Partnership”), launched in 1998 by the the World Health Organization (WHO), the Programme of the United Nations for the development (UNDP), the Fonds of the United Nations for childhood (UNICEF) as well as the the World Bank. During two days, many artists, primarily African give concerts at the Stage Iba Mar Diop of Dakar of a capacity of 40  000 spectators.

In a message intended for the organizers, Abdoulaye Wade, president of Senegal expressed his support for this festival by declaring in particular that “ paludism is the first cause of mortality in Africa. The victory will be the work of all, all energies and all the initiatives ”.

Youssou Dour composed a world anthem against the paludism which was will be interpreted for the first time at the time of this festival. It will be translated into several languages and interpreted by several artists.

Paludism touches each year in the world more than 600 million people. In Africa, according to the Worldwide organization of health, a child dies every 30 seconds of this disease.
