Africa (divinity)
See also: Africa
Africa is a symbol - that of Africa romanisée- and a divinity. Pline, in its Natural history indicates to us that “in Roman Africa nobody undertakes anything without having, au préalable, evoked Africa”.
In the most current representations, Africa is represented capped skin of a elephant, holding a Horn of plenty, in front of a Modius of corn. It also has as attributes the scorpion, the arc and the quiver, One finds it on the reverse of certain currencies, on the stones engraved like on certain mosaics of Roman Africa (see Thysdrus).
