Afel Bocoum
Afel Bocoum is a Musicien, Guitariste and Chanteur Malian, born with Niafunké in 1955.
Afel Bocoum was born from a mother peule and a father sonrhaï, musician. Having made agricultural studies , it works starting from 1978 in the sector of the agricultural development.
In 1968, 13 years old, Afel Bocoum joined Ali Farka Touré, native also of Niafunké, within the group Asco . It leaves the group in 1978 but continues its collaboration with Ali Farka Touré during about thirty years.
In the Years 1980, it founds its own group which it baptizes Alkibar - what means “messenger of the large river”, in language sonrhaï. It uses traditional instruments like the Njarka (Violon with a cord), the Njurkel (Guitare with two cords), the Calebasse, beside the acoustic Guitare. In 1997, it produces a first album.
Afel Bocoum sings mainly in sonrhaï, its maternal Langue, but also in Tamasheq, the language of the Touaregs, like in Bambara. Its Chanson S evokes the evolution of the company Malian, the recognition of the woman, the Mariage S forced, the respect.
