Af2

af2 (complete name arenafootball2 ) is the name of a minor league of the Arena Football League, which began its activities in 2000. The rules are the same ones as for the AFL. af2 plays its season from April at July.

Like the majority of the other sporting minor leagues, the af2 exists to develop football players, and also to help of the players to adapt to the model of the American football in room. Moreover, the af2 is similar to other minor leagues because the af2 teams play in moreover small towns and moreover small rooms. Whereas AFL is played in moreover big cities like Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Dallas, Tampa, Las Vegas, and Chicago, the af2 teams play in the cities such as North Little Rock, Green Bay, Huntsville, Manchester, Oklahoma City, Boise, Spokane, Louisville and Tulsa. The players gain also less in the af2, each player being made approximately $250 USD by match.

History

In June 2003, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, the police chief of the AFL David Baker briefly mentioned the af2 , saying how in one day, it considers the league with 100 teams. In 2006, this vision seems rather not very probable. The af2 is made up of 30 teams in 2007. It had 23 teams in 2006, twenty teams in 2005 and 25 year 2004. In fact, the league knew declines in the number of teams each year since the season 2002. The season 2007 will continue the extension of the league with a profit of seven new teams (Macon Knights and Memphis Xplorers is dissouts). It is partially due to an increase too quickly in league (the af2 saw 13 new teams in 2001, and ten in 2002) and to higher expenditure compared with the similar leagues. Historically, the massive expansions had little success (the National Indoor Football League, a rival league, saw the creation of great quantities of teams since they began in 2001 but much fight financially). The income of the franknesses in the league extends from $600.000 to $1 million USD. Last nine new teams were approved for 2007 in the af2: Timbers Burn, Cincinnati Jungle Kats, Fort Wayne Fusion, Laredo Lobos, Lubbock Renegades, Mahoning Valley Thunder, Texas Copperheads, Tri-Cities Fever, and Corpus Christi Sharks. The teams of Texas, Laredo, and Tri-Cities come from the other leagues of American football in room.

Fusion with Xtreme League Football

Xtreme Football League was a league suggested of American football in room which was formed with the beginning of the year 1999, with the intention to begin the play in 2000. The cities which were to shelter a team of the league were: Birmingham (Alabama), Greenville (South Carolina), Huntsville (Alabama) (Tennessee Valley), Jacksonville, Norfolk (Virginia), Pensacola, Richmond (Virginia), Roanoke and Tallahassee. Although a logo was developed and that the rooms were ready to accommodate their nouveux tenants, the league amalgamated with the af2 the July 29th 1999.

ArenaCup

The ArenaCup is the great finale of the championship of Af2, held each August. During the first five years of the league, ArenaCup was held at the team having obtained the best results during the season. However, whereas their league mother, the Arena Football League, changed, the af2 changed too. The Arena Cup 2005 was the first with being played in a neutral city with Bossier City, Louisiana. ArenaCup 2006 was played in the Coliseo of Puerto Rico to San Juan (Puerto Rico). ArenaCup returned to Bossier City in 2007.

For ArenaCups 2000 and 2001, the match was diffused nationally by TNN (now Spike TV), which has had deferred matches of Arena Football League Sunday afternoons. However, when the AFL announced their televised matches would be shown on NBC rather than TNN, the remote transmission of ArenaCup was lost. ArenaCup 2002 was diffused by Vision Network, and the match 2003 by KWHB, a local station with Tulsa, Oklahoma. Not having any cover televised in 2004, the match was diffused nationally by Fox Sports Net in 2005 and Comcast Sports Net in 2006.
