Aesch is a common Switzerland canton of Basle-Countryside, located in the District of Arlesheim.
Geography
Aesch is located at 10 km as the crow flies in the south of Basle, at an altitude of 315 meters, along the course of the Birse. The commune of Aesch covers a surface of 7,5 km ², including 48% of agricultural surfaces, 15% of forests, 36% of built surfaces and 1% of unproductive surfaces.
History
The remainders of 47 people were found in a Dolmen, attesting a human presence with the Neolithic . Later, three castles moyenâgeux were built, they underwent extensive damage at the time of the Earthquake of Basle of 1356.Just as the whole of the area, Aesch converted with the Protestant Reform towards 1529, before the Prince-bishop Jacques Christophe Blarer de Wartensee imposes the Counter-Reformation of on it 1582 on 1588. During the War Thirty Year old, the village is on several occasions plundered. At that time, the Viticulture played a great part in the commune.
After having belonged to the République rauracian of 1792 Aesch is included in the France, within the department of the Mount-Terrible until in 1800, then, until in 1815, of the department of the Haut-Rhin, to which the department of Mount-Terrible was attached. The Traité of Vienna allots Aesch to Basle. In 1833, during the separation of Basle in Basle-City and Basle-Countryside, Aesch belongs to this last.
Transport
The station CF of Aesch is located on the regional line Laufon - Basle and was arranged in 1875 like section of the line Delémont - Basle. Moreover, the tram line No 11 connects Aesch to the station CF of Basle.
Curiosities
The castle of Aesch, built between 1604 and 1607 on order of the bishop of Basle Jakob Christoph Blarer von Wartensee, is the family field of the family Blarer since 1607. There remains of important elements of dwelling, of the parts of the wall of the court and the utility buildings.A modern college is also in the village, built in Reinforced concrete without coating between 1958 and 1962. Lastly, a fall-dolmen of the Neolithic era is at the highest place of Gmeiniwald.

The commune of Aesch is the largest wine producer of the demicanton of Basle-Countryside.
