Aeronca 11 Chief
The Aeronca 11 Chief is a two-seater monoplane with high wing and fixed traditional train of school and American sport.
Development
In spite of its name, the Aeronca 11 Chief was not an evolution of the Aeronca 50 Chief prewar, but the two-seater version coast beside the 7AC Champion. Drawn by Raymond F. Hermes this apparatus was developed parallel to the Champion, the two models having more than 70% of common elements (aerofoil, empennage, gear landing, engine mount,…) the objective being to reduce to the maximum the production costs. The Chief was built only on the Municipal Airport of Dayton, with Vandalia where buildings were rented to produce this apparatus. The factory of Middletown, which will provide a certain number of subsets to the starting of the production, was absorbed too much by the production of the `Champ'.Chief did not have same success as the Champion, even if a little more than 2.300 specimens were built. The production ceased in 1950, one year before Aeronca ceases producing light planes. If the license of the Champion were yielded to Champion Aircraft Corporation, that of the Chief was sold with a certain E.J. Trytek of Syracuse, N.Y., which conceded a license with Hindustan Aircraft Ltd. The Super Chief was thus still built in India between 1958 and 1968 like Hindustan HUL-26 Pushpak.
Acquired by Bellanca with the beginning of the year 1970, the rights are today property of American Champion, but none the projects of revival of the production of this model succeeded to date.
