Aerfer Ariete

The Aerfer Ariete is the last of the experimental hunters with reaction resulting from the light hunters drawn by Sergio Stefanutti during the Second world war.

It was in fact a development of the Aerfer Sagittario II, of which it was characterized by a fuselage postpones deeper placing an auxiliary engine Rolls-Royce Soar R.Sr 2 of 821 kgp. This last, which was to be used only on takeoff, in rise and possibly with the combat, was fed by a retractable hearing drowned in the careenage connecting the head-rest of the pilot to the drift. Built with the financial support of the USA, the first prototype its first flight carried out on March 27th, 1958. This program was finally abandoned because of disappointing performances, after the realization of two prototypes which were to open the way with the realization of a model of series baptized Aerfer Leone, hunter with mixed propulsion whose Soar would have been replaced by a rocket motor.

The second prototype Aerfer Ariete is preserved at the Museum of the FRIENDLY with Vigna di Valle.
