Aequidens pulcher

The blue Acara ( Aequidens pulcher ) is a Cichlidé of South America.

Description

Of a length maximum of 15 cm (but sexually mature with half of this size), will acara it blue presents a squat body with a contracting marked enough to the level of the caudal stalk. As for much of others cichlidés, the male presents a dorsal Nageoire finishing points some whereas it is round in the female. The body is silver plated with blue reflections and presents a black spot quite visible with half of the body. The peaks of the fins have a fine orange edge.

Maintenance and Behavior

Relatively placid species which can be maintained out of Community aquarium.

Water between 18° and 26°C. pH 6,5 to 8,0. Hardness 10 to 25 °dGH.

Reproduction

Water will be heated a little more than in condition of normal life (up to 28°C) and will be at the same time slightly more acid and softer. The laying can comprise to 500 eggs and the Alevin S can be nourished with nauplies of Artémia S as of the freestyle.
