Adrien VI
Adriaan Floriszoon , born with Utrecht in 1459, pope of the January 9th 1522 with the September 14th 1523 under the name of Adrien VI (in Latin Hadrianus VI , in Italian Adriano VI ), single pope originating in the Netherlands (then concerning the Roman Holy roman Empire of the Germanic nation), and last pope not-Italian for four centuries and half.
The fact that it was not Italian was very badly accepted of the people of Rome, and itself hesitated more than six months before knowing if it were going or not to accept the tiara. It was of modest origin but was likely to make studies and to be distinguished within the Church, at the point to be selected like tutor of the future Charles Quint. Old Inquisiteur, it was at the same time intransigent on the dogma, but as in front of criticisms of Martin Luther it recognized officially as the Church of Rome was guilty abuse and deserved reproaches. And he promised to reform it, but he was exceeded by the events: it is under its reign that the Scandinavian countries started to adopt the Luthéranisme. In any event its pontificate was extremely short and he died suddenly of the Malaria after just a year on the throne of Pierre saint. With the advertisement of its death, an unknown hand deposited a spray of flowers in front of the door of its doctor. Its personal papers disappeared after its death, and one does not know what they became.
