Adrien Turnèbe

Adrien Turnèbe , or Tournebeuf , or Adrianus Turnebus in Latin, born with the Andelys in 1512 and dead the June 12th 1565 with Paris, is a Poète Humaniste French.

One sends it to study with Paris at the twelve years age. After having taught the Letters with university of Toulouse, it returns to Paris in 1547 as professor of Greek letters and Latin be with the Royal Collège.

In 1552, it is seen entrusting, helped of his/her friend Guillaume Morel, the impression of Greek works to the royal Imprimerie. The printer Henri Estienne followed some time its lessons. Died of the Tuberculosis 3 years later, its disappearance was the object of an intense debate - which less gave place to step than 600 prose and pieces of poetry - on what, of a a little doubtful orthodoxy during its life, it would have abjured the Catholicisme to embrace the Calvinisme on its bed of death.

Its works are composed mainly of Poésie S, tests of Philologie, comments on Eschyle, Sophocle, Théophraste, Philon of Alexandria, Cicéron and of translations of the Greek authors in Latin and French.

His/her son Etienne published his complete works in three volumes (Strasbourg, 1600); his/her son Adrien published his Adversaria containing explanations and corrections of many passages of the classic authors; his/her son Odet, playwright who left some comedies.
