Adrien Auzout
Adrien Auzout , born with Rouen the January 28th 1622 and died in Rome the May 23rd 1691, is a Astronome and Physicien French.
Wire of one clerk at the court of Rouen, Adrien Auzout is introduced into the erudite world while attending in Rouen Blaise Pascal. In 1648, it starts an epistolary correspondence with Marin Mersenne, then joined the erudite circle made up around Henri Louis Habert de Montmor. He pled, following observations of Comet S carried out in 1664 - 65, in favor of their Orbite elliptic or parabolic. He was opposed on this to his rival Johannes Hevelius. He is one of the founding members of the royal Observatoire. Acquired with the ideas of Huygens, he works in 1667 - 68 with Jean Picard to apply the glasses to the quadrant and to build the micrometer with mobile wire being used to measure the apparent Diamètre celestial bodies. In 1666, it enters to the Academy of Science but in 1668 leaves it, probably following its sharp criticism of the translation of Vitruve by Claude Perrault and of the argument which followed. It leaves then for the Italy where it spends the twenty last years of its life.
One gave his name to the crater of Auzout on the moon.
